Dark Horse Comics is an American comic book and manga publisher.
Dark Horse Comics was founded in 1986 by Mike Richardson in Milwaukie, Oregon, with the concept of establishing an ideal atmosphere for creative professionals. Richardson started out by opening his first comic book store, Pegasus Books, in Bend, Oregon, in 1980. From there he was able to use the funds from his retail operation to start his own publishing company. Dark Horse Presents and Boris the Bear were the two initial titles in 1986 and within one year of its first publication, Dark Horse Comics added nine new titles to its roster, including The American, The Mark, Trekker, and Black Cross.
Dark Horse quickly made a name for itself and became the 3rd or 4th largest comic publisher in the late 80s/early 90s with their licensed comics including Aliens, Predator, Terminator, Robocop, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Tarzan and more.
In the late 90s Dark Horse solidified they're being a home for creator-owned comics with their Legend imprint that included Frank Miller's Sin City, Mike Mignola's Hellboy and others.
Harvey Comics at Dark Horse[]
In 2003 Dark Horse Comics licensed the Harvey Comics characters and started releasing various key chains, figurines and other similar merchandise featuring Casper, Hot Stuff and possibly others. By 2007 Dark Horse started releasing a series of five hardcover collections of early Harvey comics. Through at least 2010, Dark Horse released a few more comics and some other merchandise.
